Soon "G-Son" Gi

Martial Arts Trainer of the Opal Teeth Sentai
Xing Kangmengou Kin of the Court of the Gate of Thunder

Description

~Soon Gi dresses like a Hollywood agent or even actor with his smart and stylish sports suits. A combination of the Korean man’s good-looking features and pedigree upbringing oppose the wrinkles of time, suggesting he’s in his late 20s at the most. As he approaches, a winsome and good-natured smile brightens up his face. Earnest brown eyes reveal his confidence, although his swagger infers he’s borderline reckless in life. But that valor has paid off, for he’s a ten-time regional karate champ. “G-Son” doesn’t demand respect, but he’s earned it.~

History

Son of the Temple

The year 1980 welcomed the birth of Soon Gi to his father, Duk-Hwan, and mother Eun. However, Gi’s heritage was common to most Garou, even Xing Kanmengou (Stargazers) when a parent was Trueborn. Because his mother was a fighter, she did not stay with the father, a layman at a Jingak Buddhist monastery outside of Gwangju, South Korea. Young Gi possessed no siblings and few companions his age near home. His rearing environment proved austere indeed.

Yet, the boy was bestowed with liberal and open-minded beliefs founded in peaceful Buddhism. In fact, the monks and laymen at this temple obeyed vows of pacifism. Still, these vows Duk-Hwan did not require Gi to submit. The youth was enrolled in public school and grew up with a relatively normal life. He earned plenty of pals in grade school, thanks to his friendly and outgoing manner. Nonetheless, Gi was occasionally embroiled in schoolyard brawls.

To further Gi’s education, Duk-Hwan agreed to let the boy take up martial arts training. Self-defense, Gi would learn, taught one how not to fight. Because tae kwon do schools as a rule were always very competitive and emphasized tournament training, Duk-Hwan instead sent Gi to a karate school (despite any nationalistic verve) that advertised no competing. Maybe it was Gi’s body type or other natural inclinations, but the boy took naturally to shoreiryu karate under Sensei Insu Bae. It seemed to be a perfect fit.

Playing at War

For all those years, Gi lived in ignorance of his heritage and his mother’s true nature. Though he reproached his “deadbeat mom” for her abandonment, he loved his father and life enough that it didn’t negatively impact his mind and spirit. When Gi grew into a man, his father finally sprang the truth. He taught Gi the basics of Xing Kanmengou and the hengeyokai, once he was certain Gi was mature enough to handle such a monumental truth and keep it secret.

However, even with this new knowledge and realization of his background, Gi felt as if he were missing something. In fact, the knowledge widened that void. Why wasn’t he like his mother, able to change into a werewolf and fight? Now an adult out of school but with no ambition for college, Gi tried his hand at a number of miniscule jobs. He quit them all eventually, feeling out of place and hopeless. Gi lived still at the monastery with his patient father, who wanted to let the boy find his own place. When Gi was unemployed, he helped with chores around the temple.

Despite his father and sensei’s wishes, Gi eventually discovered his calling. He tried his hand at competing in martial arts tournaments and took great joy in the contests. He fought independently of his school, striving against tae kwon doists and hwarang-doists. At first, he lost many due to his lack of experience in such arenas. Skill soon caught him up with the regular fighters, and he won many trophies over the next few years. Now Gi didn’t mind finding a crappy job just to pay the bills, and he rode a bicycle for transit.

Son of a Heroine

Unfortunately, this drove a slight wedge into the once beautiful relationship Gi shared with his peaceful father. Though his father disapproved, he at least was never dead-set against it, always supporting his son. Only a few years ago, Gi was finally contacted. His mother, whose Garou name was Eun Stormy Orchid, died. Her packmate, Hyo Windstone, visited Gi to give him this news. He told Gi all about his mother’s glory, her battles against necromancers and bakemono. Even as she fell bravely, her last thoughts were of the son she never knew.

Heartbroken, Gi offered his help to the Tribe however he may. Hyo was empowered to recruit the young man to aid the Xing Kanmengou as a martial arts trainer of other Kinfolk and even Trueborn cubs. He was dispatched to San Francisco’s Court of Gate of Thunder to help new hengeyokai that might undergo their change in the West. This new charge Gi embraced wholeheartedly and departed from his father and homeland with love and hope. His greatest students were Trueborn: first Namhla, who took his training home with her to China, then Nyima who continued to be his faithful pupil for long after the original assignment.

Significant Other

Because of his solid Xing Kanmengou heritage, Soon Gi was entrusted with the tutelage of Namhla Shakabpa, a Trueborn cub. The Tibetan girl was sent to him in 2007 in order to learn the basics of the martial arts before taking on advanced training in kailindo. However, Gi unthinkably fell in love with the girl whose pluck and maturity for her age were unusual. Besides, Gi was raised as hengeyokai Kinfolk and cared little for human laws. After maturity and love, well-bred lineage was all that mattered. The Elders might think otherwise, but that was why they kept their relationship beyond teacher/student secret.

In ’09, Namhla was then recalled home to Tibet to undergo proper kailindo training. He misses Namhla greatly, but he knew that day would come.

Name: Nyima Trengwa; 2012
Nature: Companionship

Nyima

Weakness
Entitled Titlelist

Gi believes that proof of his skill would prove him worthy of his blood lineage, and make the Beast-Courts take him (and other Kin like him) more seriously. But the Stargazers accept their Kin honestly anyway, and no matter what Gi does won't convince them that Kin would serve the Tribe best on the front lines.

Likelihood of Corruption

Low.

Gi is a careful guy with a lot of heart. Plus, the Beast-Court regularly screens its Kinfolk for unwelcome demonic influences.
